Building the Library Catalog

When I first posted that I was building my LFL, friends were offering to donate books, which is great. But to kick it off, I really wanted to theme my library. Being that this is going to be housed at my animal shelter, I thought I should start off with titles that had “dog,” “cat,” or “pet” in them, at least for the first couple of weeks.

We have one local used bookstore in town, but I can’t ever catch them when they are open. There is of course Goodwill, but it really takes time to sift through all the titles, and you’ll spend about $1 per book anyhow. So I turned to my favorite addiction, eBay.

Turns out, eBay is already on to our game. They have a category of Wholesale Lots. Click into the subcategory “books,” and you can choose how many titles you are looking for in the lot: up to 5, 6 to 10, 11 to 50, 51 to 100, 101 to 501, more than 500. So I went through lots, looked for ones that had “make offer” buttons on them, and did just that. I tried to be fair, and I looked for ones that would combine shipping. Most of my offers were accepted, and I think the most I ended up paying per book with shipping was about $1. This is just a great way if you’re wanting to do a theme or “take over” day for your LFL.
