Male Boxer mix 7 months old Jake was found as a scraggly, abandoned puppy. One caretaker was deployed to Afghanistan, and the other caretaker became hospitalized, so Jake was turned over to Coastal Pet Rescue to find a permanent home of his own. Jake is a happy go lucky dog who loves to play fetch, wag his tail, meet new people, and give kisses. He is not shy and loves attention. He could spend his entire day sitting in someone's lap giving kisses and getting his belly rubbed. Jake is learning about crate training as he does have a little bit of separation anxiety, so a home with another canine to keep him company would be ideal.

Male Toy Chihuahua 1 year old Brownie is a toy Chihuahua that weighs 3-1/4 pounds. He is about a year old, having been purchased at the local flea market as a puppy. He is about 80% house trained and is learning to sit before he gets his treat. He really craves attention and likes to be cuddled up next to you whenever you are sitting and will follow you all over the house when you are not. He prefers to sleep with you curled up right under you, but his caretaker has been crating him at night since Brownie usually has to go potty in the middle of the night. He does not bark alot unless you are playing with him or if someone comes in the house. He is very excitable and ready to play and be petted the minute you walk in the door and he has learned what "no biting" means.

Male Goldendoodle 2 years old Bailey was surrendered to Effingham County Animal Control due to unforseen circumstances in the family. He is a beautiful pup with a sweet disposition. He has a very playful nature about him. He will definitely keep you happy with his exciting antics! We are learning a little more about Bailey everyday. His ideal home would be one that has time to provide him training. He also wants to hog all the attention, so a home with him as the sole animal would be perfect! He does excellent on a leash and is learning basic commands. He does excellent with adults and older children. He would love to bring smiles and laughter to your home and your heart.

Female Shepard/Rotweiler mix 1 year old Sophie is a very sweet brindle mix who has been living outside a county warehouse. The warehouse folks were very good about making sure she had plenty of food, water, and human companionship, but when they realized that she was pregnant, they knew she needed more help and contacted Coastal Pet Rescue.

Sophie is enjoying a wonderful foster home and is due to have her babies in a week or two. Sophie has tested positive for heartworms and will begin treatment as soon as her puppies are weened. She is housetrained and a wonderful easy going dog.

Coastal Pet Rescue is gratefully accepting donations toward her heartworm treatment.
P.S. Keep an eye on our website for Sophie's puppies!

Male American bulldog/lab 1 year old Cain had been tied up with a wire around his neck and left to starve when animal control found him. His time was up and we were able to pull him from Chatham Animal Control on his kill date. After a little time with him, we learned that he is mostly if not totally deaf. But that sure doesn't dampen his spirits. You have to meet this sweet heart, goof of a dog. He plays well with any dogs he has been introduced to.

He is learning Sign language and will need a family that will understand and be committed to caring for a deaf dog. His roommate is LouLou. They play for hours and if possible would love to be adopted together. He loves having a friend to play and cuddle with.

He would do great in an active family who would exercise him and a fenced in back yard is a must.

Female Medium Mixed 1.5 years old Autumn was rescued from Liberty County Animal Control where the staff had been keeping her and her babies in their office so they wouldn't freeze in the kennels. Autumn weighs 28 pounds and has medium length hair. She has started heartworm treatment and will be ready for adoption the end of March.

Upon entering her foster home, Autumn gave us a wag and went in for a bath of which she was extremely thankful to be clean. She is a happy accepting dog and grateful for a chance at a good life to be. Where most of us are trying to take a little weight off for the new year, Autumn is looking forward to gaining some.

She was a little uncertain of the hardwood flooring and glanced with a waggin tail at the cat. A wonderful little house guest. She is fantastic with children.

Male Hound/Terrier mix 5.5 months old Little Archer (or Maxamillion Esquire Archer as he's called at home) hitched a ride from Santa to the woods of Effingham County, where he was found, ribs showing but tail just a waggin' by a Coastal Pet Rescue volunteer. This sweetie does not care to sit still for the camera. His favorite activities include tug-o-war, chasing the older dogs in his foster home, and eating every last morsel of his kibble (oh, and let's not forget giving kisses!). Archer is a very smart boy who is learning leash walking and crate training. He would do best in a home with a place to run and kids to entertain him as has a high activity level. Archer hasn't told us anything about his parents, only that he was taught to love each and every moment of each and every day. At just over six months old, Archer weighs 25 pounds. We don't believe he will be larger than 35 pounds full grown.

Female Russian Blue 4 years old Coastal Pet Rescue received a call of a cat on its last legs and were sent to investigate. WE found her during the middle of a rainstorm and she was laying on the side of the road, possibly clipped by a car. She was ok but stunned and filthy. After a trip to the vet, we learned she had ulcers on her tongue that had kept her from cleaning herself in proper cat manner. After a trip to the vet and some medicine Stormy has made a fabulous recovery and is back to eating dry food and sleeping on a thick cushy bed.

Their mom is a collie mix, but we don't know anything about their dad. He will grow to be about 40 pounds. Gallagher is a fun loving pup that loves to run and play. He is a bit shy at first but quickly warms up. He has never met a stranger. He is looking for a home that has a fenced yard and another dog as a companion would be great! He has alot of love to give and would like to have a family that will return that love in kind. Although he is listed as a collie/lab mix, there sure is some greyhound in him somewhere. Gallagher says pick me!........you won't be disappointed. A little shy at first, this handsome boy will steal the show.
