Scouting with Coastal Pet Rescue

At Coastal Pet Rescue, we love our Scouts! Our director/founder is not only currently a Scouts BSA Scoutmaster and Cub Scouts summer camp director, but she was a Girl Scout for eight years, even earning her silver award! We believe in involving our youth in animal welfare at an early age so they can be animal advocates as adults. Come join us, let’s change the lives of homeless pets together!

Scouts BSA
Scouts BSA working on merit badges may choose to attend one of our Scout days specifically for the Dog Care, Pets, and Veterinary Science merit badges. Scouts looking for Eagle Scout projects are welcome to contact us to arrange for a tour of Camp Pawsawhile and guidance in selecting a project to benefit homeless pets. Troops needing service hours or projects are also always welcome!

Cub Scouts
Cub Scouts may partake in a number of activities at Camp Pawsawhile and may even be able to earn awards. Scouts may complete a service project for various requirements, and Bears may earn their Critter Care in a day attending one of our special Scout Days (or arranging for a den day to complete this elective as a den). Bears may be interested in trying a carpentry project for shelter pets for their Baloo the Builder adventure. Webelos/Arrow of Light may be interested in trying a carpentry project for shelter pets for their Build It adventure.

Girl Scouts
Girl Scouts working on badges or Bronze, Silver, or Gold Award projects are welcome to schedule a time to visit the shelter for service opportunities.

American Heritage Girls and Trail Life
Youth in these programs are also welcome. Just reach out about how we can help you with meeting specific requirements for your program.

All Scouts
Specific service projects or community service hours can be arranged. Projects may range from helping with grounds or clean up maintenance to painting or folding laundry. Groups or individual Scouts are welcome, just contact us!

How to help before or after your visit:

Collect items such as towels, blankets, pet food and pet supplies.
Make posters for veterinary offices asking people to spay or neuter pets to curb pet overpopulation.
Raise funds for spay/neuter surgeriesâ€”for example, by making and selling dog biscuits.
Help at shelters’ fundraisers by working the booth or “introducing” visitors to adoptable pets. Distribute fliers advertising the events.
Invite a representative of CPR to speak to your group about helping animals.
Create bulletin-board displays for schools or libraries showing ways to help animals.
Teach by example. For instance, explain why you adopted a shelter dog.
Participate in our Pennies for Pets program, collecting spare change to be donated for shelter pets.
