Coastal Pet Rescue Successful Adoption Story: Charley

Adopted: May 4, 2005
Rescued: March 23, 2005

At only 4 months of age, Charley had already been through 4 homes. All were military who returned him due to deployments. CPR Secretary Krista Osterthaler saw him on one of her business trips to Beaufort, and pleaded to bring him into the rescue. Charley was then again adopted out, only to be returned due to his "puppiness." During one of our adoption events, a new volunteer fell in love with Charley as she walked him in the parade and asked to take him home. She never brough him back. This volunteer came to us as a result of a story of a rejected adoption through another agency reported by WJCL. I contacted her after the reporter called me, and asked her to come to volunteer with us until she was truely ready to adopt. Below is the email she sent me after I let her know I contacted the reporter back to report she was adopting from us.

Update May 2 2005
Charley That would be lovely. Will you tell her how you talked to me and we decided it is better to take a more positive approach by you helping me with becoming more active in the volunteering aspect of animal welfare? I want to tell her how you have made me see a gentler, more peaceful side of animal welfare and would now much rather act to positive than react to negative. You and Charlie changed my whole attitude. To feel so hurt was to become so blessed. Charlie was the one all along. I just didn't know it at the time. --Kelley
