Coastal Pet Rescue Successful Adoption Story: Jackie

Adopted: October 16, 2006
Rescued: January 15, 2005

Two Weimeraners turned over to Coastal Pet Rescue after being abandoned by their owners in an apartment in Pooler were in need of financial assistance. Jackie and Colby were turned in to Coastal Pet Rescue January 15, 2005. They were left behind by a couple who decided to move out of state after Jackie was hit by a semi truck on December 27. Rather than provide the care she needed, they opted to just have her leg bandaged and give her some aspirin and anti-inflammatory. The dogs were reported to Pooler Police by concerned neighbors who noticed the dogs had been left in the apartment. We sent a plea to the public to help with financial assistance, and our prayers were answered. Not only did Jackie get the surgery she needed, both she and Colby found wonderful, loving homes and happy lives. Click here for their story from start to adoption.

We just wanted to give you a quick update on Jackie. The 2 pictures attached say it better than I can put in words - she has quickly become part of the family. We have not had a bad moment with her since she arived.

Graycie (our other Weim) gets a little testy with her at times but no more so than she does with Theo (our bulldog) - that's just how Graycie is.

Jackie is one of the sweetest dogs we have ever been around - she is an angel. She is still getting used to the family dog vocabulary - "bed potty", "treat", "go for a ride", etc but that will come with time. She runs around the backyard with Graycie and Theo as if she's been with them since they were all puppies. Jackie and Graycie ride around in our VW Beetle Convertible as if they're homecoming queens - quite a site to see.

At night, Jackie visits with us on the bed and then gets down on her own bed that Sarah gave to us. Thank goodness Jackie goes to it or one of us would have to - we really wish Graycie and Theo would sleep on a dog bed. Jackie seems to enjoy the middle of the night run around the yard that happens most nights - Graycie routinely gets up in the middle of the night and now she has Jackie to run around with - much to our chagrin.

Jackie is definitely a "morning" dog. She wakes up with such energy and happiness - it is infectious. She really brightens our morning and its fun to have her around as we all get ready for work/school.

The family is very appreciative of what Coastal Pet Rescue and all of you have done for Jackie. She is a real blessing to us, as you all were (and hopefully we will be) to her. We are excited about giving her the life you envisioned for her when you rescued her and then nurtured her back to health.

We will keep you posted on Jackie.

Thank You All Again for all you do.

Update 3/28/08

Sorry it has been so long since we have provided an update on Jackie, but here is a short note to let you know that she continues to thrive in Charleston, SC.

Jackie has been part of our family for 18 months now and I can't remember life without her. She celebrated her 9^th birthday in January and remains incredibly happy, healthy and active. She settled in very quickly and it seems like the three dogs have been together forever. She has adopted all the bad habits of our other Weimaraner and English Bulldog -- I think I was hoping for the other way around but it just hasn't worked out

that way. They all sleep in our bed -- Jackie has chosen the pillows as HER spot and is quite perturbed when we move her down and to the middle -- we gave up long ago trying to get her off the bed -- it just wasn't fair given the other two had always slept up there.

When we all gather to watch a show or a movie, I get one chair, Rose gets one, the three dogs get the couch and the kids get the floor -- again not good, but it is what it is. Jackie has taught the other two how to tell time. We don't go 15 minutes beyond mealtime before all three begin following whoever is the closest to the food until they all get fed. She also heads to bed about 10:30 even if we are not in bed by then.

Finally, Jackie is a true companion for the other two. Graycie (weim) needs to go out in the middle of the night most nights. Jackie always joins her to keep her company. On the rare occasion Graycie does sleep thru the night, Jackie does the same. Theo (bulldog) is a late riser but Jackie will always get up from her morning nap to go outside with him. They both look at her likes she's nuts but they all seem to get along quite well. Some dirty looks amongst them, an occasional snarl, but never a fight. It is a fun dynamic to observe.

We are looking for an opportunity to bring her back to Savannah for a visit. It's been a challenge because all of our kids are incredibly active on the weekends. We'll make it soon -- I hope. Thanks Again For All You Do
