Coastal Pet Rescue Successful Adoption Story: Lily (Iris)

Adopted: June 12, 2005
Rescued: April 28, 2005

Lily (Iris) was one of a litter of ten Staffordshire Bull Terriers turned in to Coastal Pet Rescue this past April. The puppies were all very sick, several of them with Parvo. Luckily, Iris wasn't one of them. She found a home who had lost a Staffie that had the same coloring as her not long before she was born.

Update June 14 2005
Lily (Iris)

Just wanted you to know how much we are enjoying Lilly (Iris). We liked Lilly as a name for a female pit, so it stuck. She is truly a joy to me. I have been working at home this week, so we spent all day together yesterday. She does not seem to suffer from separation anxiety, and sleeps all night in the laundry room without crying. I got her in at Godley Station yesterday afternoon and got her started on her shots. She has worms and a couple of parasites, but she is getting some medicine, and will be fine in a week or so. She is going to be a hand full when she gets a little older, until she gets past being a puppy, but it will well be worth it. Thanks for everything. -- David

She eats like a pig, is growing like a horse, and has made herself very much at home. She will be going back to the vet on Saturday for her 9 week checkup and next round of shots. She weighed 4.5 pounds on the 13th, the day after we got her, and I think she will be 7-8 pounds by Saturday. Beth and I will both be very happy to see her lose her puppy teeth with the sharp points. Both my arms are chewed and bleeding, as well as my nose. She's wonderful Regards, David

Just a quick update. She went to the vet on the 19th for her last puppy visit. She was 17 pounds and doing well. We will be getting her spayed in about 2 months, I guess. As you can see in the photo, her life is pretty good. The head in the picture belongs to the woman who didn't want this dog on the furniture. So much for planning. David

This was actually taken about 2 weeks past her 1st birthday, but you get the idea. I think she likes it here enough to stay for a while longer.-David

Update 9/05/06 Calling Lily (we renamed her) a success story is like saying one of your kids is a success. You don't really brag about it to much. She's been here about 15 months, and seems to like it. I don't think she has any plans to run away. She has 2 big brothers out in the yard, and a couple of cousins that come by to play every so often. She loves the family, is not to sure about strangers, brings her favorite toy to us when we come in, and thinks having to sleep on the couch (as opposed to between us) is roughing it. She loves getting out in the front yard, but as soon as she realizes that she's out by herself, she comes for the front door on a dead run. She was at the vet a few weeks ago for her annual check up and shots, and she is doing well. The vet could hardly get enough skin pulled up on her for her shots. I don't know if that was because she is so lean, or because she was trying to crawl over my head to get away from him. I know this doesn't sound like much, but you can consider her a success story. We certainly do. I hope all of the other 9 from the litter are doing as well. -David
