Coastal Pet Rescue Successful Adoption Story: Winnie

Adopted: August 12, 2005
Rescued: April 28, 2005

Winnie is one of the puppies taken in by Coastal Pet Rescue. She is the runt of the litter.

Update September 14 2005

We just love her to pieces! She is a good girl. She loves to go for walks and meet new people. Several of our neighbors ask to take her for walks, so she gets lots of exercise. Our one set of neighbors spoil her so much that she always wants to go to their house when we take our walks. She loves kids and is really gentle with them. She is easily trained and loves her puppy toys, her new dog beds and her crate. She doesn't really get into too many things she's not supposed to, though we have adapted to having a puppy around by picking everything up out of her reach. One bad habit we've gotten into is letting her sleep on the bed. I'm a sucker when she asks to come up. It's cute now, but it won't be when she's full grown. There is one thing that's puzzling us, she won't go up/down our stairs. We are hoping she will grow out of it and that the stairs are just scary for her now, because she's pushing 25lbs and is getting too heavy to carry. Anyway, we love our new baby and she been such a good girl, we feel so lucky to have gotten her.

June 7, 2006 -We love her to death and cannot say anything about her except "what a good dog" and "how did we get so lucky to get such a good dog?" Her name is now Luci Lu (Low Country Luci Lu is her proper name).
We tell her how lucky she is, because she, in effect, now has two loving homes. Our neighbors across the street love her too. They will come over on a daily basis and take her for walks, feed her treats, teach her tricks and just love her. They know that we are out for the evening, they will come get her and just watch TV. If we go away, she will spend the time at heir house rather than a kennel.
She's a rather smart girl too. She has learned to open the door so she can go outside. This is rather unnerving when we leave and come home to find her on the front porch waiting for us. She is good though in that she will either stay on the front porch or go to the neighbors house. But we need to make
sure we lock the door to prevent her from venturing out on her own.
I will send you pictures when Brooke comes home to loads them on the computer for me.
We had trouble with mange when we first brought her home. And now we seem to have an allergy issue, but the source is still unknown at this point. We just started treating her for it 2 days ago. She loves other dogs and cats, but is sometimes funny with people. She definetly does not like children. We
are not sure when she learned her dislikes for some people & children because as a puppy she was on constant walks and meeting & loving people/ kids on a daily basis. We live in a resort beach town so there are always new people who are willing to talk/ play with her. But it seems that if you ignore her upon first meeting her, she will eventually become curious enough to come around with out all the barking.
Anyway, we were curious how the boys are. If you remember, we were very interested in Barton, but ending up taking Winnie because we thought she would not get too big. She is now 42 pounds very slim and loves to be chased. Her coat is about the softest dog fur I've ever felt. She is very shiny black across the top of her body and more brownish on the sides, but you can only see that in the direct sunlight. It's a good thing she has moved north too, because she does not like the heat. Even a little time in the heat is too much for her. -- Barb
