Volunteer Orientation - Help Change a Life

November 17, 2024

Time: 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Location: 7430 Thomas Avenue - off Montgomery Crossroads

Want to get involved in changing the lives of homeless pets?

Come join us for our next in person volunteer orientation. You’ll get a tour of our shelter, “Camp Pawsawhile,” an overview of how we provide care, and how you can make a difference for our pets.

There are so many different ways you can help:

Love animals but aren’t ready to commit to having one of your very own?
Fostering is a great way to love and nurture them until a family comes along.

Can’t commit to set hours?
We get it! Volunteer when you can at our Camp Pawsawhile facility. We have cats and dogs who would love to see you whenever you can make it. Even if it’s just for an hour to take them for a walk, or spend some time with them on the catio.

Love getting out and meeting people?
Pick up an adoptable pet and bring them to an event.

Good with a camera?
Come and take pics of our pets – we can always use good pics for our website and marketing materials.

A bit OCD?
Help us with some organizing/clean ups at our facility.

Handy with tools?
We might have something that needs to be fixed or updated.

If you have a skill that you think could help us in some way, come learn more about how you can help save a life.

Some Quick FAQ’s:
We run shifts twice a day – morning and evening - seven days a week.

We have different areas where you can help: Cottage (Small Dogs), Kennels (Big Dogs), and Cattery (Felines of all ages, shapes and sizes)

Shifts normally take about two hours, but go faster as you learn where everything is and have others to help.
Don’t have two hours to dedicate? That’s o.k. we’ll take all the help we can get! More people means less work for everyone.

We welcome all youth and families to volunteer. Youth under high school age may volunteer with a parent. High schoolers may volunteer on site after attending an orientation with a parent.

Come and help when you can. While we do not have a minimum set number of shifts you must commit to, we do request that you sign up for your first shift at your orientation.
You will sign up as a shadow for your first three shifts so that you will work alongside another volunteer or staff member to learn the ropes until you are comfortable enough to do it without a mentor.
After that, you tell us what works for you. We have some volunteers that come every day, while others can only commit to once a week. We’re grateful to have your time.

Camp volunteer duties include providing fresh food and water for pets, scooping litter boxes, picking up after dogs, washing runs, disinfecting litter boxes and food and water dishes, socializing (playing) with cats and walking dogs.

All volunteers are required to wear closed-toe shoes and should wear clothes that can get dirty (because they will - many volunteers prefer rain boots for working in the kennels.)

Check the FB Event page for more details and maybe see some of the pets you might meet while volunteering.
