31 Coastal Pet Rescue Pets Found Homes 4 the Holidays

(Savannah, GA) - January 03, 2007

Thanks to the generosity of our community, 31 of Coastal Pet Rescue’s pets found loving Homes 4 the Holidays.

The national adoption drive that began November 6th promoted rescued pets as alternatives for usually flea market-bought animals as holiday gifts. The adoption drive found homes for 13 dogs, 14 puppies, 2 cats and 2 kittens. Families adopting from Coastal Pet Rescue received additional goodies from sponsors, including $10 off a Pet First Aid and CPR class from the American Red Cross Savannah Chapter, $5 off grooming at Animal Instincts, Capt. Mike’s Dolphin Tour passes, a CD single from local performer Josh Holley, a free 8x10 pet portrait from Rosen Art, and goodies from KONG and Iams. Additionally, three families received passes to performances at the Savannah Theatre.

Coastal Pet Rescue received encouragement of the Home 4 the Holidays drive from Tybee Island Mayor Jason Buelterman through a proclamation declaring November 6-12 as Coastal Pet Rescue week on Tybee Island and encouraging citizens to “adopt abandoned pets and give them a Home 4 the Holidays.”

Local businesses did their parts to fundraise on behalf of Coastal Pet Rescue. Businesses hosted Santa’s Little Orphans Trees and donation canisters, contributing a multitude of pet supplies and $193.00. Contributing businesses included Savannah Toyota, Crossroad Animal Hospital, Animal Instincts, The Supper Studio, Canine Palace, Ben Farmer Realty, Shady Pines, Cat Care Clinic, Punch and Judy, Boat Center, and Davenport Designs. Additional sponsorships were provided by COMCAST, The Sullivan Group, The Wound Care Clinic, At Home Pet Sitters, Coastal Real Estate Group, Elegant Gifts, Mermaid Cottages, Sadonta Consulting, Fast Signs, The Monogram Place, Savannah Awards and Varsity, Inc.

The Home 4 the Holidays fundraising drive netted over $2,800.00. Fundraisers included a kick-off party hosted by The Crab Shack, gift wrapping at Barnes and Noble, two AASU events, three pet photos with Santa nights at Oglethorpe Mall, and adoption days at Savannah Toyota and Pet Supermarket.

Coastal Pet Rescue volunteers culminated the Home 4 the Holidays drive with a celebratory dip in the Atlantic at the Tybee Island Polar Bear Plunge January 1st.

Volunteers and donations are still needed as Coastal Pet Rescue continues its efforts in 2007. Interested persons should visit http://www.coastalpetrescue.org for more information.
