Coastal Pet Rescue and Catnip N Biscuits Partner for Oil Spill Booms

(Savannah, GA) - May 06, 2010

The oil spill in the Gulf has communities around the country wondering what they can do to help, and now, a special opportunity has arrived for animal parents.

“I saw an article on Facebook this morning about using animal fur for oil booms, and I just knew we could at least do that,” says Lisa Scarbrough, president and founder of Coastal Pet Rescue. “I have two Siberian Huksies, so I think we could provide at least a few hundred feet of boom between them!”

Scarbrough then called on Cathi Denham, owner of the new Catnip N Biscuits kennels and doggy day care. As an avid pet lover, Cathi immediately agreed to be a drop off point for donations.

Pet fur should be collected without any debris, and as clean as possible, into grocery bags, compacting them as much as possible to reduce the air for shipping. The bags may be dropped off at Catnip N Biscuits between 9 am and 12 pm or 2 pm to 5 pm. Coastal Pet Rescue will also accept the donations at their adoption event on May 16th at Seaside Sisters on Tybee Island.

In addition to pet fur, nylon stockings are needed. The nylons should not be stuffed with the fur before donating.

All donations will be sent to Matter of Trust, which separates the fur and mixes it with donated human hair to create the oil booms. Coastal Pet Rescue welcomes any business who would like to assist with the shipping costs once fur has been collected.
