Coastal Pet Rescue Announces United Way Volunteer of the Year Nominees

(Savannah, GA) - April 11, 2005

Coastal Pet Rescue is proud to present its Adult Group nominees for the United Way of the Coastal Empire’s Volunteer of the Year award.

Coastal Pet Rescue vice-president Jason Schwartz, treasurer Donna Williford, and special projects coordinator Mandy Ownley joined Coastal Pet Rescue in 2004 as officers of the organization. Jason set out in search of sponsors; Donna took to aiding the president with the financial statements; Mandy looked to start new programs to benefit homeless pets in the community.

“All three took on a number of challenges and found ways to help advance our cause,” says Coastal Pet Rescue founder and president, Lisa Scarbrough. “They believed in a dream I started on my own, and Coatal Pet Rescue became more successful with their contributions.”

Tim and Diana Knight became volunteers after Scarbrough contacted them to help place a litter of six puppies they found in a dumpster. Since then, they have attended every Coastal Pet Rescue event and served as puppy foster parents twice.

“Tim and Diana are our greatest source of moral support,” says Scarbrough. “We continually benefit from their years of experience as biologists and animal lovers.”

The nominees will be recognized at the United Way’s Volunteer Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, April 20th, 11:45 am at the Savannah Station.
