Coastal Pet Rescue Receives Generator through Power to the Paws Grant from Petfinder.com

(Savannah, GA) - September 22, 2009

Last September brought a week of panic to Coastal Pet Rescue’s founder and president, Lisa Scarbrough.

“It was the first time we had really been threatened by a hurricane,” recalls Scarbrough. “No matter where I called for boarding of our foster pets in Georgia or South Carolina, facilities wouldn’t allow us because our pets were rescues.”

Despite being able to pay the boarding bills and provide copies of all veterinary records from licensed veterinarians, Scarbrough was repeatedly turned down by boarding facilities.

With no hospitality in sight, and many foster pets to accommodate, Scarbrough took to setting up her home with extra crates, food, water and supplies to prepare and ride out the storm.

“My mom was not happy with me in the least,” says Scarbrough. “But I could not force foster parents to take pets if we were to evacuate. I had to have a plan, and it was the best option available.”

Shortly after the threat of Hurricane Hannah had passed, Scarbrough received an invitation from Petfinder.com to apply for a generator, a much-needed item should Coastal Pet Rescue volunteers and pets have to ride out a storm in the future.

Scarbrough sent in Coastal Pet Rescue’s application for Power to the Paws, which would provide 500 selected organizations with a generator from Honda. The letter of acceptance was received a couple months later, but due to a large back order, there was no delivery date given.

Earlier this month, Gregg Ewaldsen of Power Equipment and Solutions in Garden City called Scarbrough to announce the portable generator had arrived.

“We’re proud to be able to help a group so committed to saving homeless pets in our community,” says Ewaldsen.

It took just a short time to get the generator serviced and ready for use, and this week, it will finally be delivered to Coastal Pet Rescue.

“We couldn’t be more grateful,” says Scarbrough.
