Coastal Pet Rescue Volunteers Receive Emergency Rescue Certification
Savannah, GA October 14, 2008
Three Coastal Pet Rescue volunteers recently received emergency rescue certification.
On Saturday, October 4, Coastal Pet Rescue volunteers Lisa Scarbrough, Wendy Owens and Carol Howard attended a United Animal Nation EARS (Emergency Animal Rescue Services) workshop in Charleston, SC.
The EARS workshop prepares volunteers for responding to and establishing temporary shelters for animals after disasters.
“Most people don’t realize that you now must be part of a compliant National Incident Management System (NIMS) agency to assist after a major disaster,” says Coastal Pet Rescue president Lisa Scarbrough. “With this training, we’ll be even more prepared in the event a disaster ever affects Savannah.”
In addition to assisting with disasters, EARS volunteers also establish temporary shelters for animals after criminal seizures, puppy mill busts, and hoarding cases.
Coastal Pet Rescue is no stranger to assisting with disasters. In previous years, the group sent supplies and volunteers to Slidell, LA after Hurricane Katrina, Waycross, GA after the wildfires, and St. Louis, MO after the major floods in Iowa.
