Jacob G. Smith Fundraiser to Benefit Coastal Pet Rescue

(Savannah, GA) - May 17, 2004

Jacob G. Smith Elementary’s third grade classes have chosen to donate their annual “Pops for Pups” fundraising money to Coastal Pet Rescue.

Each year, the third graders sell popsicles to raise money for local animal rescue organizations. This year, they chose Coastal Pet Rescue.

“I’m very excited about the opportunity they have provided us,” says Lisa Scarbrough, Coastal Pet Rescue president. “It is wonderful to see children care so much about homeless animals at such an early age.”

Scarbrough and her faithful companion, Bluey - a 3-year-old Husky/Retriever mix who was also a shelter dog - visited the third graders on May 12th for a humane education program on homeless pets and overpopulation.

The classes will present their funds to Coastal Pet Rescue on Thursday, May 20th at 3:00 pm at Jacob G. Smith Elementary.

Coastal Pet Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue organization dedicated to saving the lives of homeless, abused and neglected dogs and cats in Savannah and surrounding areas. Founded in February 2003, Coastal Pet Rescue changes the lives of homeless pets in Chatham, Bryan and Effingham Counties through its foster home program and small capacity shelter, Camp Pawsawhile Retreat.
