Joint fundraiser to send a local resident to appear on “Wheel of Fortune” and benefit The Milton Pro

(Savannah, GA) - June 22, 2006

A Tybee resident wants your help to send her to appear on “Wheel of Fortune” and benefit area feral cats.

On Saturday, July 8th, Marie Rodriguez and her friends and family will hold a hot dog, bake sale and silent auction at Tybee Island’s Memorial Park from 11 am to 2 pm to raise funds for her trip to appear on “Wheel of Fortune”. Proceeds from the sales will be split 50/50 with The Milton Project, Coastal Pet Rescue’s trap-neuter-return program for feral cats.

“I’m excited for this opportunity,” says Rodriguez. “The Milton Project has done so much to help Tybee with its feral cat overpopulation, so they were an obvious choice to benefit from this fundraiser as well.”

July also commemorates The Milton Project’s first anniversary.

“The Milton Project has trapped, sterilized, vaccinated and returned 90 feral cats since the program’s inception,” says Mandy Ownley, director of The Milton Project. “We started trapping on Tybee earlier this year and have found residents to be very supportive. We are interested in tracking the impact of our program within the controlled setting that the island naturally provides.”

The Milton Project volunteers will have information on-hand about feral cats and how a trap-neuter-return program can humanely decrease feral cat populations. Donations of cat/kitten food, chicken baby food, baby formula and clumping cat litter will also be accepted. These items will be used for feral kittens and stray cats that are socialized and placed for adoption through Coastal Pet Rescue.

In addition, Coastal Pet Rescue will provide $10 microchipping for dogs. Dogs must be leashed and have proof of current rabies vaccination.

Coastal Pet Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue organization dedicated to saving the lives of homeless, abused and neglected dogs and cats in Savannah and surrounding areas. Founded in February 2003, Coastal Pet Rescue changes the lives of homeless pets in Chatham, Bryan and Effingham Counties through its foster home program and small capacity shelter, Camp Pawsawhile Retreat.
