Local Teen Receives National Recognition for Her Contributions to Animal Rescue

(Savannah, GA) - July 10, 2006

A strong desire to become a veterinarian after college led high schooler Melissa Reinhardt to volunteer her time to Coastal Pet Rescue.

“After her family adopted one of our rescued animals, Melissa approached me to start volunteering,” says Lisa Scarbrough, president and founder of Coastal Pet Rescue. “She has a natural compassion towards animals, but wants to learn what more she can do to improve their lives.”

Melissa works with other Coastal Pet Rescue volunteers at adoption events and even volunteers her time with veterinary visits and pulls from animal control as well as transports and paperwork.

As a result of her dedication, Lisa nominated her for the Doris Day Animal Kingdom Kindred Spirit Award.

“The Animal Kingdom Kindred Spirit Award is our way of saying ‘Thank You’ to individuals who have shown extraordinary compassion or kindness toward animals, and to inspire others to follow their fine examples,” says the organization’s website, http://www.ddaf.org/kindredspirit/.

Melissa will receive a letter of commendation from DDAF’s executive director, a certificate of recognition, and an Animal Champion pin.
