Local Third Grade Class Gives Christmas to Homeless Pets

(Savannah, GA) - December 17, 2007

At a time of year where children are usually focused so much on presents for themselves, the third graders at Jacob G. Smith Elementary School have chosen to give a big gift to homeless pets.

The pets of Coastal Pet Rescue received a $400 donation from the caring students as part of an annual community service project.

“This is the fourth year the students have donated to us,” says Lisa Scarbrough, president and founder of Coastal Pet Rescue. “It warms our hearts and gives us hope because these children understand what we are doing and why we need their help.”

Coastal Pet Rescue will use the funds to provide food, supplies and veterinary care for the more than 30 pets currently in foster homes.

Founded in February 2003, Coastal Pet Rescue is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of homeless, abused and neglected animals in the coastal areas of Georgia, South Carolina and Florida.
