National Animal Welfare Conference Selects Local Pet Rescuer, Lisa Scarbrough as Speaker

(Savannah, GA) - December 22, 2007

The Humane Society of the United States has chosen local Savannah resident Lisa Scarbrough to conduct a workshop at this year’s annual Animal Care Expo. The National Animal Welfare Conference will be hosted this May in Orlando, Florida. Scarbrough, whose animal rescue efforts date long back to her childhood, is the founder of Coastal Pet Rescue.

Created in February 2003, Coastal Pet Rescue is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of homeless, abused and neglected dogs and cats in the coastal areas of Georgia, South Carolina and Florida. What began in 2000 as a small website run out of Scarbrough’s home is now a successful organization with notable recognitions and nearly 60 active volunteers.

In 2002, Scarbrough began using her website to showcase pets that desperately needed homes. While waiting to find quality homes for pets that she and friends found, Scarbrough and her team provided veterinary care.

Today, Scarbrough and her team continue to run Coastal Pet Rescue from her home. She has been a web programmer for eMarketSouth since November 2001 and uses the skills and knowledge that she has gained to facilitate the rescue and adoption of over 500 pets. Lisa has also volunteered for two years with the Georgia Center for Non-Profits. It is here that she began conducting workshops to teach local non-profits how to better utilize their websites.

At this year’s Animal Care Expo, she will conduct a more targeted version of her non-profit workshop. Scarbrough will speak to animal welfare agencies and share her knowledge on how to capture the attention of visitors and keep them coming back for more. She plans to discuss the process of accepting donations and encouraging participation.

Coastal Pet Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue organization dedicated to saving the lives of homeless, abused and neglected dogs and cats in Savannah and surrounding areas. Founded in February 2003, Coastal Pet Rescue changes the lives of homeless pets in Chatham, Bryan and Effingham Counties through its foster home program and small capacity shelter, Camp Pawsawhile Retreat.
