New Trap Loan Program Available for Feral Cats in Savannah

(Savannah, GA) - October 16, 2007

In honor of National Feral Cat day October 16, The Milton Project is launching a trap loan program to the Savannah community.

“The Milton Project wants to help promote Trap-Neuter-Return practices for feral cat colonies,” says Sherry Montgomery, trapping coordinator for The Milton Project. “By starting a trap loan program, more caretakers can utilize the services of SNAC (Spay/Neuter Alliance & Clinic) to halt the reproduction cycles, mating behaviors and territorial fighting.”

The new trap loan program will also help caretakers that are on The Milton Project’s waiting list to TNR their cats more quickly than waiting for a trapping volunteer to get to them.

The deposit for the trap is $25.00 and is refunded at time of return of the trap cleaned and in good working condition. If the trap is damaged, replacement value is $65.00. The traps will be loaned out for 1 week at a time. Traps cannot be used for capturing feral cats for Animal Control or any other entity that may destroy them. Relocations can only be done with the prior approval of the Trapping Coordinator.

Caretakers using the trap loan program are expected to pay for the spay/neuter of the trapped cat through SNAC. Rabies shots must be given and FEL/FIV testing is available. Prices range from 40-80 dollars, and cats must be returned on Mondays for SNAC pickup.

Trapping instructions are given by a “seasoned” trapper, several helpful handouts will be given and the volunteer can also offer colony caretaking tips if needed. Additionally, release must be signed by each caretaker. To request a trap, call 912-351-4151 or email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

SNAC is the only low cost/high volume spay and neuter clinic in the area, serving 10 counties in Georgia and South Carolina. Transport to the clinic from central pickup locations is available. SNAC’s spay/neuter services are available to the public by calling 843-258-2510 or visiting http://www.SNAC1.com.

The Milton Project is a feral cat trap-neuter-return initiative of Coastal Pet Rescue. For more information, please contact Sherry Montgomery at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
