Update on Consumer Warning for Puppy Sale Ads

(Savannah, GA) - May 26, 2008

For animal lovers, there’s nothing more heartbreaking than losing your favorite four-legged friend.

For the Lane family, instead of spending Memorial Day weekend with their newly purchased puppy, they are grieving for his loss.

The Lanes purchased Bubba, a Rottweiler puppy, from Mr. Roy Newsome, owner of Newsome Enterprises, on May 18th. The Lanes’ teenage son, Jacob, couldn’t wait to get Bubba home and teach him new tricks, but he never got the chance.

The morning of May 21st, Bubba began vomiting. A trip to Webb Animal Clinic revealed Bubba still had hookworms as well as parvovirus. The clinic began an aggressive treatment to save the puppy while the family returned to confront the breeder.

When the family returned to the point of sale, Mr. Newsome refused to come meet with the family members, instead sending his daughter out the front door with the refund.

The Lanes remained hopeful, but Sunday morning, May 25th, little Bubba lost his fight.

Although Mr. Newsome had informed the Lanes that Bubba and his four brothers and four sisters had received two vet visits and dewormings, they were never provided any actual paperwork from a licensed veterinarian nor were they shown a Georgia Department of Agriculture license which regulates pet breeders.

It’s a hard lesson learned for the Lane family, but one they hope others will remember when deciding to bring home a new pet.
