The Dogs of Coastal Pet Rescue Ask You To Heal Their Hearts This February

(Savannah, GA) - February 09, 2009

Make a puppy your valentine this year.

Savannah based non-profit, Coastal Pet Rescue (CPR), is seeking donations to help four rescued dogs receive heartworm treatments. The total cost for the procedures will be $4000. Individual treatments cost $600 each, with three of the dogs requiring two treatments.

Sheltie sisters “Ardslea” and “Parka” were actually trapped and rescued by CPR founder Lisa Scarbrough. Abandoned in a foreclosed home, they have since been adopted and are awaiting treatment.

CPR understands the responsibility that comes with adopting and how a $600 heartworm treatment can affect an adopter’s wallet.

“We don’t want to put the burden on the adopters,” says Scarbrough.

Additionally, two other CPR dogs need treatments, “Precious” and “Brandy”. Both dogs were rescued from local animal controls. “Brandy” is still waiting to be adopted.

Heartworms are transferred from mosquitoes and our region is highly affected. Treating heartworms is costly, but prevention is easy and inexpensive. There are a variety of options available and it can be as easy as a monthly pill.

This disease can be fatal if left untreated. CPR assists with about 20 heartworm treatments each year.

Donations can be made by mail to CPR at P.O Box 30462, Savannah, GA 31410, online at http://www.coastalpetrescue.org, or directly to Georgetown Veterinary Clinic.
